First Day in OSCON 2009

Hi there, today I am writing about my first day in OSCON, enjoy…
Google API went my first tutorial yesterday and with it I saw some things cools but I was hoping more. I think that the speaker had to be more dynamic and expressive too. But I gave the discount because I had to install many things in my new computer :D to keeping pass by pass.

After this the convention gave a lunch, a sandwich lunch :( whit black tee and water, the dessert (cake) was good.
Then my expectation gone to my second tutorial, Internet Programming with Python, for me the title not correspond with a real title because since when the tutorial started the speaker just talked about the python architecture with the internet, he sad things about Client/Server, Socket, Connection and more. This titles are rocks but in this moment I hoped a tutorial like internet programming with python for developers and not architects. A good example to show my second tutorial for you is… to read I read in my home!!
I think if I understand more about python architecture this tutorial will be good, because I would be ask many things and the speaker could be show many other subjects.

In the python tutorial pause I moved and I went to watch other one and this went a good decision because the other lecture was excellent, the subject was Smalltalk.
I like smalltalk tutorial where we used the seaside and webvelocity framework. Is easier and dynamic to create a application and a web component with simples clicks. In that moment I thought… the webvelocity is rocks, it debug and you exchange many things in real time and both application and html browser gave update with some clicks.

For now… that is it!!

by Felipe Mayworm

My expectation for OSCON 2009

In my last post I wrote about OSCON 2009, and as read there, this O'Reilly Open Source Convention is coming and my expectations to see excelents tutorias and sessions up day by day.
Have to open the first day no less than see the tutorial about Introdution to Google App Engine with Joe Gregorio (Google) speaker.
As first sailor travel in a convention that level, I will be lying if I said that my expectations are not high.
Other tutorial that I want so much to watch is How to Write Your Own Eclipse Plug-ins, I am a suspect because I love to use Eclipse IDE and I want to help the community to fix some bugs in some Eclipse plugins. For this tutorial I received a e-mail saying some things about waht I need to do before attending.
Until I read in several blogs and articles I just can think that my expectations will be achieved.
I hope to get success in my goal, that it is to post here in my blog an overview of each lecture after the end.

by Felipe Mayworm

The Importance Of Requeriments

Requeriments are the first step toward a solution, and they describe in detail a software system is supposed to do. The types of requeriments are known as: Requeriments Development, Requeriments Analysis (Analysis), Requeriments Definition, Software Requeriments, Specification, Functional Spec and Stories (for Scrum projects).

Requeriments are important for several reasons, such as…

Explicit requeriments also help to avoid arguments that may exist and help to ensure that the user rather than the programmer drives the system’s functionality. If you have a disagrrement with another programmer about what the program is supossed to do, you can resolve it by looking at written requeriments. A good requeriments keep you from guessing what the user wants.

Paying attention to requeriments helps to minimize changes to a system after develoment begin. Specifying requeriments adequately is a key to project success, perhaps even more important than effective construction techniques. However, customers like to know what you are doing all time, then you can use short development cycles so that you can respond to your users quickly.

Some people say about a requeriments checklist question and I like that!! But I think… Not all of question will apply in your informal project, however, you may need to consider every one question in your large and formal project. Below, we will see some of these issues:

- Are all the inputs to the system specified, including their source, accuracy, range of values, and frequency?
- Are all output formats specified for Web pages, reports, and so on?
- Are all the tasks the user wants to perform specified?
- Is the level of security specified?
- Are minimum machine memory and free disk space specified?
- Is the definition of sucess included? Of failure?
- Do the requirements avoid specifying the design?
- Are all possible changes to the requeriments specified, including the likelihood of each change?
- Where information isn’t available before development begins, are the áreas of incompleteness specified?

For more information on requeriments at all levels, see some specific books.

Source: Code Complete 2

by Felipe Mayworm

by Felipe Mayworm
